Portland's Gas Blower Ban: What Homeowners Need to Know

If you live in Portland city limits, you're responsible for making sure your lawn care company uses compliant equipment. Here's what you need to know to avoid fines.

⚠️ Property Owners Are Responsible

The City of Portland has placed the burden on YOU to police this ordinance.

If a neighbor complains about a gas blower being used at your property, YOU will receive the fine—not the lawn care company. Make sure you hire a company that's fully compliant.

What You Need to Know

The Ban Applies To:

  • All properties within Portland city limits
  • Both homeowners and lawn care companies
  • Gas-powered leaf blowers only
  • All seasons (with temporary exceptions)

Temporary Exceptions:

The City recognizes that dealing with heavy fall leaves is challenging, so gas blowers are still allowed during October-December for 2026 and 2027 while the industry adapts.

Areas NOT Affected:

This ban only applies to Portland city limits. Surrounding cities like Gresham, Troutdale, Wood Village, and others have not enacted this ordinance.
