How Often You Should Mow in Oregon (And Why It Matters)
Because Portland’s climate swings between very wet and very dry, mowing frequency matters more here than most places. The right mowing schedule keeps your lawn thicker, greener, and more resistant to weeds.
1. Spring (March–June)
Mow once every 5–7 days. This is the fastest growing period. Letting grass get too tall leads to scalping.
2. Summer (July–August)
Mow every 7–14 days depending on watering. Set mower height higher to reduce stress.

3. Fall (September–November)
Weekly mowing keeps leaves from matting and smothering grass.
4. Winter (December–February)
Only mow when grass is dry and above 40°F — usually every 3–5 weeks.
