How Hillside Started
In the spring of 1997, Bret—a Portland native with a deep love for the Pacific Northwest outdoors—decided to forge his own path. Coming from a family of self-employed individuals, he knew he wanted to build something of his own. But instead of following in the family business footsteps, he chose a different direction entirely: landscaping.
It started small. A few family members needed their lawns mowed. Then neighbors asked for help. Word spread. Not because of fancy marketing or big promises—but because of something simpler and more powerful: people could count on us.
That simple foundation—provide a good value for a quality service that people can count on—became the bedrock of everything we do. Over 25 years later, that same philosophy is why we now care for over 300 residential and commercial properties across the Portland and Vancouver metro areas every single week.
